Workplace Violence: Preparing for Guns in the Workplace Arkansas

Arkansas HB 1249, signed into law in March, 2017, creates an enhanced carry permit system that allows licensees to carry firearms in most gun-free zones. What that means for workplaces and the potential for violence will be discussed in this session, along with mitigating risk, and dealing with the aftermath of an act of violence in the workplace.

Mark Malcolm

President and Founder at Disaster Management International (DMI)

Mark Malcolm is the President and Founder of Disaster Management International (DMI). He served over 20 years in law enforcement and has been involved in over 40,000 death investigations. Mr. Malcolm holds Fellow status with the American Board of Medicological Death Investigation at the St. Louis University School of Medicine and is a board-certified death investigator. He has served as an instructor for the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute and the U of A for Medical Sciences. He is qualified as an expert in death investigation in United States District Court and the Arkansas Circuit Courts. In June 2007, Mr. Malcolm was appointed to the FEMA National Advisory Council and was named Director of Mass Fatality Planning and Response for the Arkansas Department of Health.

Joey Sylvester

As a Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. ERM Consultant and National Director of Operations and Planning, of Gallagher Public Sector, Joey assists in the assessment, analysis, evaluation and reporting of risks. He has developed risk-based data management applications and tools to enable implementation. Joey also oversees the planning and deployment of Gallagher Public Sector sales initiatives, resources and communications. He has developed Gallagher-exclusive products focused on terrorism and disaster recovery. He also serves as liaison to Lloyd’s underwriters. Joey formerly served as a Human Resources professional with various roles in Compensation, Benefits, and General HR Support. He holds a Master of Arts in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from New York University.
